Obituary of Emily Smith
Emily Smith was the youngest child and beloved daughter of Max James and Connie Robinson Smith. She was born April 28, 1977 in American Fork, Utah and died Sunday, August 26, 2018 in American Fork, Utah.
Emily’s mother taught her at an early age to love music. She was an expert and talented musician, playing the Piano, Organ, Violin, Viola, Cello, Piccolo and Ukulele. Since childhood, Emily was given many opportunities to compete and perform in school programs, contests, symphonies, weddings, funerals, and many other occasions. Emily taught violin to hundreds of students over the years and she and her Mother established the American Fork Arts Council String Program, teaching for 15 years.
Emily had a brilliant mind and after graduating with honors from American Fork High School, Emily attended UVU in Orem, Utah, also graduating with honors. She went on to receive a master’s degree in Music Education, graduating Summa Cum laude “with greatest honor", being a straight A student.
Emily’s life, like many, was wrought with trials and challenges, yet she persevered, moving forward with faith and renewed purpose. She suffered many illnesses in life, including Multiple Sclerosis and others, but did her best to move forward, replacing her own pain and suffering, with service. Her life was filled with joy and love as she used her many talents to serve in both church and community, including founding the Music Outreach Program of the Utah Symphony, which was designated to help kids at risk. Emily trained to be a skilled piano tuner.
Emily lived her entire life in American Fork, Utah with the exception of the last few years in Pleasant Grove, Utah. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Preceding her in death was her father, Max James Smith, and Grandparents Sherman and Doris Robinson, and Adelbert and Della Smith, of American Fork, Utah. Surviving Emily is her beloved Mother, Connie Robinson Smith, as well as all of her siblings, Rebecca Smith Adams (Thomas Adams), Harold Max Smith (Kathleen Egbert Smith), Kathleen Smith Gauger (Dennis Gauger), Robyn Smith Healey (Karl Healey), Daniel Robinson Smith (Jenifer Jacob Smith), David Robinson Smith (Kami Christensen), Sara Smith Swallow (Joseph Swallow). Emily had many nieces and nephews who loved her and whom she loved and taught.
The family will hold private family services, and burial will be at the American Fork Cemetery.
Many wonderful people, ward members, friends and neighbors, had positive influence on Emily throughout her lifetime, and as her family, we wish to acknowledge your love, kindness and compassion toward Emily. Also, many thanks for the very professional, kind and compassionate care of the many doctors, nurses and others at the American Fork Hospital, who treated her the last days of her life with respect, and tenderly cared for Emily.
