Obituary of Vern D Clegg

Vern D Clegg 1932-2014 Our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend Vern D Clegg took his final journey home September 19th from complications of MS with courage and stamina. Vern was born July 2, 1932 in Heber City, Utah to Almon G and Geneva Denison Clegg. He grew up in Heber and graduated from Wasatch High in 1950. At an early age he delivered newspapers on his bike even in the winter time and he worked on the farm with his Father and brothers. Vern was married to Joyce Probst, later divorced. Married Launa Simmons on March 11, 1969. Later they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity. Married to the love his life for 45 years. He served his country as Corporal in United States Army in Fort Ord California, then in Ft Campbell, Kentucky playing the trumpet in the 74th Army Band. Vern worked for Garrett Freight Lines for 15 years. He had a love of Education earning his Bachelors and Masters Degree, becoming an Elementary teacher, principle, and then Director in Jordan School Distract. He supervised opening Willow Canyon Elementary. Vern was an active member of the LDS church serving in many positions, his most loved was being a Bishop. He enjoyed interacting with people and working with them. He had an appreciation of music and enjoyed singing and leading the Ward Choir. He enjoyed family gatherings, sports (mountain biking), traveling and exploring Mother Nature. Vern and Launa were able to travel after retirement and loved being together. Vern is survived by his wife Launa, their children Carilyn Faust (Greg), David Clegg, Kim Summers (Mitch), seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, children, Jeffrey and Shauna Ann. Four brothers and one sister, Dennis (Dawn), Alene (Grant) Calvin, Almon (Janis), LaVar (Janice) many nieces and nephews and good friend. The family would like to thank Stonehenge of AF for all the kind and loving care for Vern and Applegate hospice for their tender loving care, namely Tangi. Funeral services will be held Thursday Sept. 25th in the Pacific Drive 1st Ward, 500 North 700 West in American Fork at 11:00. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6-8 at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North and Thursday 9:45-10:45 at the church. Please share a memory on andersonmortuary.com.
