Obituary of James Andrew Nielsen
James Andrew “Jim” Nielsen, 51, passed away unexpectedly April 26th, 2017 at his home in Lehi Utah. He was born January 31 in Schenectady, New York, the son of J. Merle and Christina Morrison Nielsen. He served an LDS mission in Munich, Germany where he met his future wife Claudia S. Schmidt. They were married August 7, 1987 in the Washington DC LDS Temple. Jim received a BA in Political Science, an MS in Statistics and an MBA. He worked in financial management for multiple companies including CitiBank and American Express. He was an avid BYU cougar fan; his BYU banner could be seen from I-15 on game days. He was a man of immense intelligence and faith, a friend to all.
He is survived by his cherished wife Claudia, sons Andrew , Alexander (wife Jess), and Michael, grandson Oliver, mother Christina, mother-in-law Liselotte Schmidt and siblings John Nielsen, Tina Vanderwerken, Heather Hardy, and Arla Wilding. He is preceded in death by his father and infant brother Peter.
A viewing will be held Tuesday May 2, 6-8 pm at the Anderson & Sons Lone Peak Chapel, 6141 West 11000 North, Highland. Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 3 at 11:00 am in the Traverse Mountain 6th Ward, 2447 West Ravencrest Lane, Lehi, Utah. Interment will follow in Lehi cemetery.
