Obituary of Robert James Garland
Robert James Garland, 87, passed away December 1, 2017 in Cedar Hills, Utah. Born November 26, 1930 in Los Angeles, California to William Joseph Garland and Eva Florence Sargent Garland. He married Mary Teresa Domingo December 30, 1950 in Los Angeles, California. Bob served in the United States Airforce during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sargent after 4 years of service.
Bob and Teresa were married when he was 20 and she was 17 and spent 67 wondrous years together. Family was very important to Bob and they spent weekends together exploring California and Arizona. He loved the sun and would spend hours on the beach in the summer and trips to the desert in the winter.
Bob could fix anything and saw value in everything, no item couldn’t be repurposed. He enjoyed working on their home, vehicles, boat, model trains . . .
Bob loved trains and volunteered at the LA Fairgrounds on their Garden Railroad (G gauge) trains and layout. It was the nation’s largest garden railroad layout and he was very proud of it. He went every Wednesday and Saturday for 20 years where he had many friends he enjoyed working with.
He was a family man and very proud of his kids & grandkids. He was a constant father figure to his grandchildren showing them love and support. He enjoyed attending his great grandchildren’s events and watching them compete.
He survived by his wife, Mary, his children: Glen (Jan) Garland, Suzanne Schofield, and DiAnne Harter, grandchildren: Brian Schofield (Leslie), Paul (Jamie) Scofield, Erica Garland, great grandchildren: Leo, Maeve, James, Haley, and Natalie Scofield. Preceded by Yvonne Huffer Garland and Scott Alan Harter.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the Anderson & Sons Lone Peak Chapel, 6141 West 11000 North, Highland, Utah. Burial will be at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
