I have been friends with Lavaun for between 15-18 years now and not a day will go by when I will not miss her. She loved being able to show exert her independence in the best way possible, even though her body resisted oftentimes. If you knew Lavaun at all, you know that she was a die hard fan of the Utah Jazz! She had the ability to make a Jazz lover out of anyone simply by the joy that she could share by talking about them!! However, you better be careful about where you buy your seats, because if you buy anywhere near the opposing team, there would he** to pay for those players who were rooting for the other team!! (Sorry, Timberwolves fans for that one time she “accidentally” spilled her water all over you)!!!!
I don’t know how many jazz games or how many Jazz players we met, along with Orem Rehab staff members, but, LaVaun actually made me learn that basketball can actually be a fun sport to watch and be a part of.
I have learned that friendship comes in many forms- it sneaks up on you in those tender moments when a gentle god puts someone in your life that helps you slow down, invites you to sit down and wants you to know if you realize how much you are appreciated. I am really going to miss hearing Lavaun tell me that she appreciates me, and getting the coupons for our next lunch to Arctic Circle, or the to see the lights for Christmas, I bought a car for my last vehicle instead of an SUV because it was easier for her to get in and out of a car than my SUV- and she wasn’t shy about telling me that, or my parents! Everyone should be so lucky to have had LaVaun in their life, and I am really going to miss her- I hope I will be as loving to someone else as she has been to me. Love you, my friend!
