Obituary of Natalie Layton
Natalie Whittaker Layton passed peacefully on November 26, 2017 after battling breast cancer for the second time. Natalie was born in Utah County on June 4, 1979, to Layne and Susan Whittaker. From an early age she found joy in competition through gymnastics, track and field, and ultimately volleyball, earning 5A All-State honors for three years and an All-American nomination. She followed in her mother’s and sister’s footsteps and played for Brigham Young University’s Division I volleyball team from ’97-’01. She graduated with a BS degree in Archaeology.
She married a teammate’s brother, Bryan Layton, and had two beautiful children, Maya Natalie (age 10) and Bryan Kent (age 7). Natalie was completely devoted to her children and faithfully served in church callings with cheer and optimism.
She possessed a rare talent for photography and was able to capture the true essence of her subject. Her compassion was obvious as she rarely charged a standard photographer’s rate because she believed that “it shouldn't cost moms a fortune to have nice pictures of their kids."
She was filled with wit, strength, and integrity, and was a rock for all those who knew her. She will be missed greatly, but was at peace knowing that she will see them again.
Graveside services will be held Friday, December 1 at American Fork Cemetery, west of the Veterans Memorial (26 W 600 N St, American Fork, Utah). A simple graveside service will begin at 1 pm.
