When I saw the obituary of Sister Ashby in the Daily Herald, I thought I knew her on my mission when assigned to Chattanooga,Tenn, in 1968. So I checked my missionary journal and found 3 entries:
Easter Sunday, April 14th--"Such inspiring thoughts were expressed in services today, especially when Sister Ashby offered such a fine testimony."
Friday, April 19th--"We went out to see Ashby's beautiful home. They have a great family, almost all grown. She has a genealogy line traced back to Adam!"
Sunday, May 12th--"Two mothers were baptized today (Glenda Breedon and Ms. Cunningham). The service was held at Sister and Brother Ashby's home prior to the baptism at the lake. It rained today, but as we departed for the lake, the heavens opened and the sun shed forth its rays upon us, and what a beautiful service it was. After the service, we went to Church for a special Mother's Day program, where the two new members were both confirmed."
Also, my wife Cindy was a Pearson from Knoxville, Tenn. Her parents Ray and Leah and their children were friends with the Ashbys, whom they admired greatly. What a small world it is. Thanks to Ruth Ashby and family for their legacy of service.
