Obituary of George Jesse Scott
George Jesse Scott was born May 16, 1938 in American Fork, Utah. His parents were George Comb Scott Jr. and Myrl Crookston. They lived at 130 South 300 West American Fork, Utah. His sister Louise was born August 26, 1942 rounding out their family of four. George attended Harrington Elementary as a child and remembered fondly a family vacation to Yellowstone in 1949.
George attended American Fork High School where he was a member of the American Fork High School Marching Band playing under the baton of K.J. Bird and achieved 1st chair recognition on the trumpet. He had a love of music that spanned his lifetime. As a junior in high school he earned the rank of Eagle Scout which he was very proud of. George graduated from high school in 1956 and soon after enlisted in the Utah Army National Guard. During this time he attended Brigham Young University to further his education and went on to join Company B, 19th Special Forces group (Airborne) based at Camp Williams in Lehi, Utah.
George was called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the West Central Germany mission from February 1961 to August 1963. He returned and married Annette Moyle in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and had 5 beautiful children. They later divorced in 1985.
During his time at Brigham Young University he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters of Public Administration. His work experience took him to Lynchberg Virginia where he served as a city planner. After returning to Utah he served as the Executive Director for the Mountainland Association of Governments. He then pursued employment in Dhahran Saudi Arabia working for the Aramco Services Company. After two years he returned to Utah with his family and worked for the State of Utah.
George was an avid sportsman and loved to fish and hunt. His hobby of gunsmithing prompted him to open his first gun shop in the early 1980’s. Der Jagerhof gun shop was his passion and he shared it with many, many people throughout his life.
