Obituary of Constance Lois Pritchett King

Constance Lois Pritchett King, 86, passed away November 17, 2017 in St. George, Utah. Born September 11, 1931 in Los Angeles, California to Melrose Jed Pritchett and Lois Watson Pritchett. She was sealed for time and all eternity to her high school sweetheart, Stanford William King, on January 4, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
 
Though she left Los Angeles as toddler, Connie proudly considered herself a “California Girl” and jumped at any chance to bury her toes in the sand, wade “just a little too far” into the surf, and search for shells or sand dollars. Connie spent her childhood in Sanpete County and Pleasant Grove before her family settled in American Fork.  She graduated from dear ole’ AF High where she enjoyed debate and drama.  She also attended Brigham Young University where she was a Cougarette, and spent a semester at the University of Denver studying radio broadcasting.  She always enjoyed reading, studying and learning about new and exciting things, and even in her later years frequently could be found attending religion classes at BYU in the evenings.
 
She was always serving others, and had a special way for making everyone feel loved and welcome. She was active PTA President for much of her kids’ school years, and faithfully served nearly 20 years as the President of the 8th Ward or American Fork North Stake Relief Society. In her later years she enjoyed serving as a Family History Specialist.  She was very proud of her pioneer heritage and leaves a legacy of having performed a tremendous amount of family history and temple work for her ancestors.
 
Connie enjoyed adventures in life, primarily because these things involved time with Stan and her family. She sought out the road-less-traveled no matter the destination, and had a marked map and book or brochure commemorating every adventure. She loved the outdoors. She loved to ski, both on the snow and the water. She also looked forward to hunting trips in the mountains, and fishing trips wherever the fish were biting.  She was very proud to hold the family record for the largest yellowfin tuna! Connie and Stan were dyed-in-the-wool, true blue, BYU fans.  They were Cougar Club members who held season tickets for basketball/football for 40+ years, and often traveled to see their beloved Cougars play on the road.
 
Her accomplishments and adventures aside, her greatest joy was her family. Anyone who met her quickly learned about how proud she was of her family.  As her children spread out from coast-to-coast, and to both corners of Southern Utah, there was nothing she enjoyed more than trips with Stan to “visit the kids.”  She also was an amazing example of love as she cared for her parents in the waning years, and relished every opportunity to visit with her brothers and their families.
 
She is preceded in death by her eternal companion, Stanford, as well as her brothers Jed Pritchett and Michael Pritchett. 
 
She is survived by her children: Curtis (Debra) King (Moab, UT), Craig (Jan) King (Great Falls, VA), Cathy (Don) Humphries (St. George, UT), and Cory (Tara) King (Escondido, CA), grandchildren: Brooke (Codey Phillips), Jeremey (Brianne), Cody (Molly), Shyanne (Ray Carter), Ryan (Laura), Michelle (Steve Kirshenbaum), Jennifer, Heather (Paul Devitt), Melissa, Michael (Amberlie), Morgan (Cody Weaver), Walker, and Holland; 18 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way; and her sisters-in-law Jackie (Jed) Pritchett and Patricia (Michael) Pritchett.
 
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the wonderful staff of Spring Gardens Assisted Living Center in St. George, UT for their caring devotion to Connie and Stan over the last four years, as well as the amazing team of Dr. Codiga, Janet, Kym and Wendy for their loving service to Connie and the family in her final weeks.
 
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the American Fork 6th/8th Ward Bldg, 300 North 100 East. A viewing will be held Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork and Saturday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Burial will be in American Fork Cemetery.
