Obituary of Ray Ariel Taylor

Ray Ariel Taylor, 78, passed away August 3, 2018 in American Fork, Utah.  He was born July 8, 1940 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ariel Sandberg Taylor and Mildred June Godwin Taylor.  He grew up in Salt Lake City, Mesa, and for a short time in California.

 

After graduating from Granite High School, he served an honorable mission in Northern California. Ray then served in the Utah National Guard for six years. During his service, he married Carolyn Gordon in the Salt Lake Temple on Dec. 12, 1963.  As a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints he served faithfully throughout his life in many calling, including serving a mission to Alaska with his lovely wife Carolyn later in life.  He has a strong testimony of our Savior and exemplified His love in all he did.  He loved serving in the temple and dedicated many hours of his life completing this work.

 

Ray was a general contractor for over 30 years and built many homes. He taught his children this trade as well. 

 

Ray enjoyed yardwork, gardening, fishing, camping and basketball.  He loved finding unique stones, rocks, gems, and such to make jewelry for others with.  He shared all of his talents and gifts with his children and grandchildren.  He was always positive and happy. Everyone he met or knew him felt his love and kindness.  He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. 

 

Ray is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn, and children: John (Kathy), Jen (Kyle), Adam (Omira), Matthew (Elisa), Keith (Julie), Joseph (Cindy); 27 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and his siblings: Robert, David, and Julie.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine, his father and his mother.

 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday August 8, 2018 at 11:00 am in the American Fork 26th Ward, 975 N. 60 E. American Fork.  The viewing will be held from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services.  He will be laid to rest in the Provo City Cemetery.
