Obituary of Lorraine Black Lafferty
Beloved Mother, Grandmother, sister, and friend, Mrs. Lorraine Lafferty, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away at age 82 on July 23, 2018, in American Fork, Utah. She was born on June 10, 1936, in Ogden, Utah, to the late Florence Mae Page and the late Ersol L. Black. She attended the University of Utah, and later graduated in Mathematics from Mount San Jacinto College, California. Lorraine married Robert Carl Slatton and divorced, and later married the late Charles (Chuck) Raymond Lafferty.
Lorraine and Chuck lived in Canyon Lake for 25 years where they owned and operated Emilio’s Restaurant until 1990. She also worked at Lake Elsinore Unified School District as a Teacher’s Aide until retiring in 2004. She spent the last 14 years in Sun City community Sun Meadows where she had many wonderful friends and neighbors.
Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Patricia Lopez; stepson, Todd and Amy Lafferty; stepdaughter, Diane and Gordon Hollick; and half-sister, Sue Blackman, stepbrothers and sisters Kathryn and Bliss Harmer, Maria Mortensen Shields (Glen), David Mortensen (Marsha), Michael Mortensen (Jane), and Elizabeth Mortensen Haslam. She is also preceded by a stepbrother Daniel Russell Mortensen.
Grandchildren are Preston E. Lopez (deceased), Basia D. Lopez, Mariah G. Lopez, Celine and Grant LaMont, Trevor and Tyler Hollick, and Ian and Jon Lafferty.
Lorraine enjoyed golfing, skiing, dogs, line dancing, shuffleboard, traveling, boating, various volunteer and social organizations, camping, gardening, and reading. Her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren grow up and taking part in their lives. Lorraine is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a member of Canyon Lake Community Church. She was a past president and board member of the Lioness Club for many years.
Friends and family members may attend the Funeral service, officiated by Bishop Jack Miles, on Thursday, August 16 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 225 Mildred St., Perris, California. Graveside service will be held at 11:30, at the Riverside National Cemetery located at 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92518. Staging Area 1.
