Obituary of Anita "Mae" Allen
Anita Mae Allen, 87 passed on July 3, 2018 in Daybreak, Utah. Mae was born on December 25, 1930 to George Lewis Allen and Irene Tingey in Rock Springs, Wyoming. She grew up in Salt Lake City, attending East High School. She graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Pharmacy, following the footsteps of her father. Mae loved helping others all of her life through her profession. While attending the university, she met Kay Hislop Allen, who also became a pharmacist. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together they worked side by side as pharmacists in their family owned store in American Fork and later at the American Fork hospital.
Mae is survived: by her husband, Kay Allen; brother, George Allen (Charlotte) and his family; Five children-- Mary Lyman (Cleo), Christine Mehner (Lynn), Shauna May (Bill), Scott Allen (Dina) and Mark Allen. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Mae was preceded in death by her parents, and two grandchildren Jim Mehner and Shelley Nielson.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was a big part of Mae’s life. She served in many callings over the years. Together Mae and Kay served a mission to California, and the genealogy library in Salt Lake, as well as being ushers at the conference center. They were also temple workers and spent many years enjoying that endeavor. Mae has been an anchor of faith to her family.
The activities that her family remembers her most by include: Baking cookies and twice-baked potatoes, having loved ones over for dinner and travelling with family. Playing games like Pictionary, Pinochle and Bridge were her favorites. Everyone can picture her sitting in her chair reading a good book. But her favorite activity was spending time with Kay.
A funeral and celebration of life will be held on July 14, 2018 at Anderson Mortuary in American Fork, Utah at 11:00 a.m. A brief viewing will be held from 9:45-10:45 a.m. preceding the funeral.
