Jacqueline Lucile Martin Barker
February 21, 1933 - May 12, 2018
Our sweet mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Jacqueline Lucile Barker, was reunited with her forever sweetheart Kenneth, on May 12, 2018. She died of congestive heart failure.
Jackie was born in Lyman, Wyoming to Erma Field Martin and Thomas E Martin and was the oldest of 4 children. She spent her childhood and high school years in Evanston, Wyoming, being active in all sorts of church and school activities. It was when she was in the 7th grade she spotted the love of her life Kenneth Ray Barker and told her best friend that she was going to marry that Barker Boy. They courted all through her high school years and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 20, 1952, by President Harold B Lee. Together they raised five children.
She held many callings in the LDS Church including, Counselor in the Relief Society and Young Women’s, and President in the Primary organizations. She also served with her husband as mission president in the Louisiana Baton Rouge Mission 1987 – 1990 and as Director of Winter Quarters, in Omaha, Nebraska 1994 - 1996.
She wrote and published a book of our family history that her family will forever cherish.
In 1998, her lifelong sweetheart was taken from her, and she became the “Rock” to her family, as her attitude was always one of courage, optimism, love, and concern for others. She was a positive inspiration to all who knew her. She was an example of unconditional love, patience and her love of the gospel. She has left us a great legacy to follow, with her commitment and dedication to living the gospel.
She is survived by her children: Kent Barker (Lisa), Kathie Myers (Leonard), Cindy Wilder (Terry), Laurie Burningham (Rex), and Karen Anderson (Paul): 24 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, siblings Sherry Callaham and JoAnn Carpenter. Preceding her in death was her husband Kenneth, her parents and her sister Kay Ellsworth. What a joyous reunion she is now sharing with her loved ones especially her knight and shining armor!
The family expresses appreciation to the many individuals who lovingly cared for our mother through the years including the River Meadows Assisted Living aides and staff, especially MarKae Funk, Dana Mutch and LDS branch members, family and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Highland LDS Stake Center Chapel, 5335 W 11200 N, Highland, Utah. Family and friends may call from 9:45 to 10:45 am at the church prior to services. Burial will be at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City.
