Obituary of Craig Broadbent Jonsson
Craig Broadbent Jonsson, 61, passed away unexpectedly on April 15, 2018 in Provo, Utah. He was born June 18, 1956 in Salt Lake City, Utah, & was the first of five children adopted by Jens & Helen Jonsson, who raised him in home centered on the Gospel & education. He grew up in Provo, but traveled the world with his parents & siblings, at times living in Turkey, Romania, & Austria.
Craig served an LDS mission in North Carolina & had fond memories of his time there. He married Cindy Folsom August 18, 1979 in the Provo LDS Temple. They eventually settled in Highland & have proudly called it home for the last 34 years.
Craig loved fishing & being outdoors. He enjoyed working on cars & tinkering in the garage. He turned “puttering around the yard” into an art form, & lovingly tended to his garden each year with the help of dear friends & neighbors. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Of all the callings he held in the church, he cherished his time serving in the nursery most. Children were drawn to his childlike innocence & sense of fun. He worked in his stake’s family history library for 10 years doing indexing.
Craig’s life was filled with physical trials, & he miraculously survived numerous accidents & serious illnesses. Though permanently disabled the last 11 years of his life, he was always eager to serve with a smile on his face. Everyone he met was asked - with more earnest persistence than a pushy door to door salesman – one, or both, of these questions: “What can I do for you?” or “Do you want to go fishing?”
As an adoptee, Craig was curious to know of his biological roots, particularly his family health history. Through the wonder of DNA technology, Craig very recently discovered & connected with two half-siblings, Jane Hafen & Colin DeGattis, who both survive him, & learned of his birth mother, Kathryn Conoley Beebe, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife Cindy, his children: Sara (Scott) Bulkley, Lara Oswald, Bradley Jonsson, & Holly (Jake) Huffman; 7 grandchildren; 4 siblings, Diane Thayer, Karen Hughes, Catherine Tezak, & Eric Jonsson. He was preceded in death by his loving parents. Though saddened by Craig’s passing, we find comfort in knowing his body & mind are free from their physical constraints, & look forward to seeing him again.
We wish to thank the many family, friends, & neighbors who have so lovingly assisted & supported Craig through all his challenges, particularly the members of the Highland 30th Ward.
