Obituary of Allen Leslie Hansen
Allen Leslie Hansen, 78, of American Fork, passed away April 6, 2018 in Lindon, Utah. Born June 26, 1939 in American Fork, Utah the son of Hyrum Leslie and Mable Durrant Hansen. He married Peggy Ann Blake August 3, 1963 in Salt Lake City and their marriage was later solemnized in the Jordan River LDS Temple June 11, 1993.
Allen served in the active Army from 1958 to 1961, including time in Panama. He served for over 36 years in the Army National Guard, attaining the highest non-commissioned rank of Command Sergeant Major.
Allen began as a pipe-fitter at Geneva Steel and advanced through several management roles during his fifteen years there. He retired as an employee of the State of Utah after 22 years with the Utah National Guard in the Directorate of Engineering and Housing.
Allen was always happy helping others and enjoyed his public and church service. ‘Big Al’ was a proud member of the American Fork Fire Department for over 30 years. Allen and Peggy served a mission at Martin’s Cove in 2006. Allen also served for three years as the Branch President of the American Fork Care Center.
Allen’s greatest joy came from the time he spent with his family, coaching and teaching his children and grandchildren. Allen enjoyed camping with family and taking on the role of camp chef to make his famous Dutch oven specialties. He particularly enjoyed spending entire days fly fishing with his son and close friends.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; children: Leslie (Randy) Buell; Brad (Marni) Hansen; Laurie (Jon) Slater; 12 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, a grandson: Morgan Slater, and his siblings: Glen Hansen; Deon Hansen; and Sherri Homer. Funeral services will be held Thursday April 12, 2018 at 11:00 am in the American Fork LDS Church at 455 East 300 North American Fork. A viewing will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm at the Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North Am. Fork and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 am prior to the services at the church.
