Obituary of Carol Ann Harris Tanner
Carol Ann (Harris) Tanner
Dec. 24, 1932 - March 16, 2018
Carol, 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Alpine, Utah on Friday, March 16, 2018.
Carol was born Dec. 24, 1932 in Kline, Colorado to David and Nellie Harris. She was raised on a small, rural farm in Red Mesa, Colorado along with 9 siblings (7 sisters and 2 brothers). The Harris family was very musical. By the time Carol was 4 years old, she could sing harmony, and by 5, she was known by everyone in her school for her singing gift. In high school, Carol and her sister had their own local radio program where they sang fan-requested, favorite pop songs of their day. Her musical gift helped earn her way through Ft. Lewis Jr. College where she sang in a popular dance band every weekend and later earned her a scholarship to BYU as a Music Major where she sang with the Madrigal Singers. Carol met Darrell D. Tanner when she was just 14 years old, and for her it was love at first sight. She married him six years later in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 11, 1952, shortly after Darrell’s return from a church mission. Carol was Darrell’s most trusted and valued partner in all things important—family, work, community, and fun! Together they built several successful businesses during their 44 years of marriage. Theirs was a joyful & loving union, greatly admired by their children and many others. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell, and her eldest son, Vinson. She is survived by four of her sisters, her children; Bradley (Jolene), Jason (Renee), Tracy (Rob), and Linley; twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. A private graveside service will be held in Springville, Utah with her children and grandchildren. Donations may be made in Carol’s honor to the Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
