Obituary of Don LaVon Cook
Don LaVon Cook of Pleasant Grove, Utah passed away Monday, May 12, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
Don was born in Rigby, Idaho on May 29, 1943 to John William and Philena Barrington Cook.
As a young man he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rochester, New York. While serving as a missionary he enjoyed being a part of the Hill Cumorah Pageant, where he was able to play an important role in that great production.
Following his mission he enrolled at Ricks College. It was while he was attending Ricks that he met his sweetheart, Ruth Larsen. They were married August 30, 1968 in the Idaho Falls temple.
After graduating from Ricks, he went to BYU where he earned his bachelors degree in the field of social work. He worked in that field for many years and loved to associate with and serve people of all walks of life. He served as the director of the Retired Senior Volunteer program for Salt Lake County. After he retired from Salt Lake County he worked for Community Action in Provo, Utah.
He served faithfully in the LDS church as a member of a stake mission presidency, a member of the stake high council, Scoutmaster, as well as a bishop. Don also enjoyed the time he spent serving with his wife as a Guest Service Missionary at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The most important part of his life had always been his wife and his family. Don is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters. Don is survived by his wife Ruth, and his three brothers, Dale, William and Melvin Cook, and his sister Ila Sellers. Don is also survived by his three children, Rachelle (Scott) Davies, Todd (Aliesha) Cook, and Ryan (Camie) Cook and 10 grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Friday evening, May 16, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson and Sons Mortuary at 49 East 100 North in American Fork, Utah. The funeral will be held Saturday, May 17, at 11:00 a.m. at the Orchard Ward LDS chapel located at 828 South Locust Avenue in Pleasant Grove, Utah. A viewing will also be held at the church at 9:45-10:45 a.m. on Saturday morning, May 17, prior to the funeral services.
