Obituary of Della Mae Healey Bowen
Della Mae Healey Bowen
1924-2014
After living a life of selfless service and exemplifying her belief in Jesus Christ, our beloved mother, Della Mae Healey Bowen peacefully passed away on August 29, 2014. She was born in Alpine, Utah, on July 24, 1924 to William and Minnie Healey. She graduated as valedictorian from American Fork High School. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Chipman’s Mercantile where she worked with a handsome war veteran, Fred Bowen. They were married on September 9, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. Fred passed away in 2002.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, willingly serving and magnifying her many callings, which included transcribing patriarchal blessings in her beautiful handwriting. She leaves a legacy to all who knew her of faith and trust in our Savior, Jesus Christ. Her life was not always easy but she fought every battle with tenacity and determination. She spent many years of her life quietly serving others. Her strength and faith will always be an inspiration to her family.
She was soft-spoken, had a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. She started many family traditions which were enjoyed by her family and will still continue on each year. Some of her grandchildren called her the “fun grandma.” She was a meticulous housekeeper and excellent cook, famous for her delicious apple pies. She was also a master hand quilter. Every grandchild was the recipient of one of her beautiful handmade quilts.
She is survived by her six children: Jolene (Kenneth) Monson, Kathy (Sam) Mecham, Larry (Anne) Bowen, Bruce (Melissa) Bowen, Debbie (Douglas) Brown, and Nancy (Scott) Litke, and her brother, Elvin (Joan) Healey. She was blessed with 26 grandchildren and 64 great grandchildren who loved her dearly.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Cedar Hills LDS Chapel located at 10351 North Bay Hill Road, (on the East side of Canyon Road) Cedar Hills, Utah. A viewing will precede the funeral services from 9:30 to 10:30 am. In addition, a viewing will be held from 6-8:00 pm at Anderson Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork, UT.
