President Farmer was my first mission president in the Northern Indian Mission. I served under him from Aug 1966 until July 1967. He was always a mountain of strength to me. The first time he visited in the area I was serving, Winnebago, NE, he put his sleeping bag right on the floor by us and captivated us (me in particular as a new missionary) with the vision of the Lamanite people we served. I regret that I was only with him for 1 year. He loved the work, he loved the missionaries and made us work hard. I loved him as a leader and have looked up to him my entire life. My prayers are with the entire Farmer Family that they may know how grateful this one little missionary is for his life and mission.

Grant was a example in our lives during the ward in the Castle drive chapel in Boise. He was a good friend. We have lots of memories with the Farmer family. Our prayers are with all of his family.

Truly my heart has been touched upon hearing of the passing of our dear Uncle Grant. I have not seen Uncle Grant for many years but wanted to share how his positive influence has affected one life as well as many others. In my youth I clearly remember Uncle Grant sharing his strong yet humble testimony at Loveless family reunions. I remember wanting someday have the faith and wisdom that he humbly imparted. Uncle Grant always had time to pay attention to the children at the reunions. He had a great sense of humor and loved laughing and being with family. He had a way of making everyone feel special.
The Farmer family came to Southern California to visit us one summer. I was privileged to join the Farmers as we drove to Tijuana. We had so much fun buying sombreros and bull whips. As we headed home we passed a city called Oceanside. I remember Aunt Estella and Uncle Grant commenting what a beautiful place it was. Turns out that is where I chose to raise my family.
As I prepared to be a missionary, studying Spanish at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah I ran into Uncle Grant several times on the BYU campus. In a double thumbs up kind of way he encouraged me to dedicate myself to be a successful missionary. It was clear to me what his hopes were for me and indeed today I have realized that a part of who I am is because of Uncle Grant's great example.
Thank you Uncle Grant.

President Grant Farmer was my mission president in the Northern Indian Mission for the last 6 or so months of my mission. He was a dynamic, fearless leader. We loved his courage, optimism and great tenacity to do the work.
His love for the native americans was unwavering. Later as I served as mission president in Provo, Utah we visited a few times and reminisced about the past and talked about the work with the Indians in Eastern Utah. He never got tired of promoting the work and sharing ideas of what can be done.
I remember his (or you) four sons who were very young when I served as a missionary with him in the summer and fall of 1964. We helped locate the mission home there and spent some time in the home with the Farmers and missionaries.
I haven't seen you sons since the mission, but please know how much we loved and appreciated your Father and Mother for their devotion to the work and the love we felt from them.
Sincerely,
Harold C. Brown

Brother Farmer was my Seminary teacher in Meridian, Idaho in 1968. He was patient and encouraging with our rowdy group and we knew he cared about us. In fact, he took some of us to Salt Lake to attend our first General Conference in the Tabernacle. This was a significant spiritual experience as well as a fun adventure. I am grateful for his positive influence in my life.
