Obituary of Edward William Smith

Edward William Smith 1922 - 2014 Edward William Smith “Eddie” age 92 passed way peacefully in his sleep November 11, 2014. Waiting for him on the other side are his Loving Wife Lela, Granddaughter Kimberly Smith Scott, and Great Grandson Thor Scott. Eddie was born on February 25, 1922 to Valoria & John Smith. Eddie was a go getter, he made friends easily, Loved unconditionally, he had a smile for everyone, and was a friend to all. Eddie attended school in American Fork, Utah. Served honorably in WWII, and was introduced to the love of his life, Lela Hunsaker, upon returning home. He married Lela and they started their life together. Eddie graduated from BYU in Education. He taught at American Fork Jr. High, and he later earned a Master’s Degree and became Principal at that same Jr. High. Eddie and Lela owned and operated the American Fork Shoe Shop. He also had the opportunity to build his family a cabin up American Fork Canyon. Eddie and Lela welcomed their son Mark to the family and they would spend countless hours in that canyon on horseback, cooking over an open fire and playing the gut bucket. Family was Eddie’s first priority; he welcomed Sherma, Marks wife to the family and each one of his granddaughters as they came along. He loved them so much and was so proud of them. Eddie loved to serve where ever he could. He had a group of friends that would go around to the rest homes and play their music for them, that gut bucket was well known and appreciated; they played at many affairs around town too. He was honored to be Grand Marshal in the American Fork Steel Days Parade. Eddie had many church callings through the years including Home Teacher, High Priest, Missionary, and Bishop. He loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was a faithful member. Eddie is survived by his son Mark, Granddaughters; Rachelle (Shelly), Kristine Harper, and Charlene McClure. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork. A viewing will be held from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial in American Fork Cemetery.
