Obituary of Robert Hogan Weight

Robert Hogan Weight, age 96, died at the Bel Aire Senior Living Center in American Fork, UT, January 3, 2015. Robert was born Oct 1, 1918 in Springville, Utah; the first of 8 children to Willis Alfred and Mary Jane Hogan Weight. He grew up farming with his dad in Springville, UT and the family homestead ranch. Having strong mathematics skills he graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering from Utah State in 1940 and then a MS degree from Cal Tech in 1941. While employed as an engineer at the Davis Dam project in Arizona he took up landscape oil painting in his spare time. His beautiful paintings grace the homes of his children, grandchildren, and the American Fork Senior Center. Robert served 2 years in the US Navy during WWII initially as a Seaman 1st Class and he graduated from the school of electronics as an Electronics Mate 3rd Class at the time of discharge. Robert married Charlotte Young November 10, 1950 in the LDS Manti Temple. Together they raised 6 children who were the joy of their lives. Their happy union spanned almost 60 years. Robert’s main employment was with Bechtel Power Corporation at the Los Angeles, CA office where he was Engineering Manager for 32 years. Robert was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Bishop and had many other church callings. He and his wife Charlotte served as missionaries on Temple Square. Afterwards they moved to Leeds, UT where he enjoyed painting, gardening, horseback riding, and hiking. Robert was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte in 2010, his younger brothers Harry, Paul and Jay, a sister Larue Sanders and a great grandson, Cale Mackley. He is survived by his 6 children: Ellen Robinson (LaMar), Bryan (Charlotte Hall), Willis (Stephanie Wheeler), Marian Davis (Brian), Renae Mackley (Reo) and Bev Smith (Jeff), 35 grandchildren, and 58 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be Friday, January 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the American Fork West Stake Center, 688 West 500 North. A viewing will be held Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork and Friday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, UT. At 2:00 p.m. The family wishes to thank Marian Weight Davis and her husband for the years of loving care they gave Dad in his senior years. We also thank the kind caregivers at the Bel Aire Senior Center.
