Obituary of Dorothy Wright Gray
Dorothy May Wright Gray
1921~2015
Our loving Mother, grandmother and great grandmother and friend Dorothy May Wright Gray, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on April 4, 2015 in American Fork, Utah. She was born on October 13, 1921 to Benjamin Harper and Eliza Irene Varley Wright in Twin Falls, Idaho. She married Junius Clarence Gray on March 12, 1941 in American Fork. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on March 12, 1951.
At 93 years old, she was still an energetic, on the go, feisty and out spoken woman with an ever present sense of humor. She worked by her husband’s side on the family farm throughout her working days. She was happy to work outside and it let her be with her husband, all at the same time. She too, operated all the farm equipment including a combine with a 14 foot header.
Dorothy worked as hard at church as she did on the farm. She was an active member of the LDS church and served faithfully in numerous callings throughout her life. Among them; teacher and counselor in the Primary, camp director, activity counselor, teacher and president in the Young Women’s and was a counselor and teacher of mother education in the Relief Society. She and her husband also served together to teach dance to the youth.
Dorothy and her husband loved to go out dancing with friends and family and would often be found “cutting a rug” at the community dances. She was an avid BYU basketball and football fan. She and her husband were members of the Cougar Club and held season tickets for over 55 years. Being indoors, was only out of necessity. It was the outdoors that she truly loved. Walking, camping, fishing and Moab jeeping with family and friends were most sought after and enjoyed.
Dorothy’s most cherished treasure was her family. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Dorothy is survived by her son, David J. (Leona), seven grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Junius, April 5, 2000. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 12:00 noon in the American Fork 5th ward church, 381 South 300 East, A viewing will be held that same day from 10:00–11:45 am at the church prior to the service.
