I first met Keith in 1954 the first week of my mission to Brazil. He was my first companion and became a life long friend thereafter. He was president of the Campinas District and for three months I toured that district with him. We traveled by train from one town to the other and I just enjoyed watching the passing countryside until one day Keith told me I should be reading and not wasting my time just looking out of the train window. I told him I had a problem with motion sickness, to which he said,"you'll never overcome it until you challenge it by spending some time reading." He was right and I did learn to overcome it. He was like a big brother to me, although he's only about 9 mos. older than I am. I'll miss him being here, although I haven't seen him very often in the past few years. Thanks Keith for a good life and a good example.

Dear JoAn & Family - what a great day when you moved into our ward. We've had the privilege of experiencing most all the varieties of the Youngs. One of my best scout trips was to go to Shoshone Lake under Keith's leadership. We love you all and know he will always be "around". We have enjoyed knowing and watching your family through the years. You all have been examples to us and our family. I, Sis. Beck, once asked Keith how he avoided being a bishop all those years. His answer was, with a twinkle in his eyes, "Well, I have always made it possible for me to be conveniently incompetent." I always thought that was great and determined to always remember that statement.
