Obituary of Thomas James Echols
Thomas James Echols, age 80, passed away on August 23, 2015. He was born on December 8, 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri to Samuel Thomas and Virginia Mae (Crew) Echols. He was married for time and all eternity to Roberta Ann Laramie on August 14, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple.
He served his country in the Army for three years. Thomas was a nature enthusiast and loved being outdoors; he treasured working with the youth and spending time with his family. Thomas loved to play games, both board and card, and loved to tell jokes, especially if he could receive a groan for a reaction. He survived the St. Louis Public School System as a teacher and principal for nearly fifty years and “never” got out of the fifth grade! Thomas served faithfully in many callings with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. With his beloved and eternal companion, Bobbie, they traveled together full time all across the United States for twelve years.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta and Children: Cynthia (Joseph) Asbury, Tina Echols, John (Janice) Echols, Thomas (Angie) Echols, and Elizabeth Echols. Thomas is also survived by his sister and her husband: Charlotte (Mae) and John Brune. He has ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and hopefully more to come! He has touched many lives. He was well loved.
A memorial service will be held in Thomas Echols’ honor on August 29, 2015 at the Latter Day Saint Chapel, 7th Ward, at 688 West 500 North, at 3 o’clock pm. In lieu of flowers, because of Thomas’ love for all of God’s creatures, donations may be given to: Best Friends Animal Society which can be found at- www.bestfriends.org or brought to 5001 Angel Canyon Rd, Kanab, UT 84741.
