Clyde was my step-father when I was aged 12 – 19. As Proverbs 22:6 says “train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Clyde was instrumental through my teenager years in training me up in the way I should go. Through his unconditional kindness and compassion he taught me that I had value, and what it meant for me to be treated like a lady. He always opened my car door, and made me feel special. He taught me how to treat my parents and others with respect. He taught me how to laugh at myself. I have very fond memories of Clyde: the first (and last) Disneyland trip with five teenagers packed into the Pontiac, going to Walkers for a Snickers and Pepsi, ironing his white shirts for work, making homemade ice cream and the old Pepsi vending machine out on the deck. Clyde made every day special. He was the best sandwich maker, and a very dapper dresser. Now I have my own blended family, and I can honestly say, that Clyde set such an amazing example for how to treat the children who are not your own. My thoughts are prayers are with Clyde’s wife and sons.

I'm so grateful I was able to catch an early flight home from South Carolina to participate in today's feast. Uncle Clyde was pretty special in my life. Even though we didn't see each other very often, I always felt very close to him. I remember when he returned from Korea and visited our family in Boise. He brought me a jacket and a knife with about 20 gadgets on it. As a teenager I remember the thrill of riding in his red Bonneville convertible (we both seem to like red convertibles) and heading out to the lake. He taught me to waterski. During my college days at BYU he and Dallas and I used to go play golf. Those golf games with my two special uncles were always a fun experience. In 2007 I moved to Orem and lived in a townhome right behind Target. I would walk over there and visit with him as he arranged the produce. Then there were the visits to his new home by the golf course and he always enjoyed showing me all the golf balls he had collected. We've had some good chats about life.
Clark, Chris and Mike -- it was great to connect with you guys after all these years. I hope it doesnt take another funeral before we see each other again. I KNOW that your dad was pleased with all that you did and said today. You all helped provide a special spiritual experience for all who attended the services. And I enjoyed Cindy and Andy and Jennifer. (Andy, thanks for introducing me to the J&J twins. :-)
Uncle Dallas' story about his dad and 'the boys' was pretty dang special too. My mom (Roma) was always so proud of her little brothers and loved you all so much. I'm grateful to be a part of this great family! Love you all.

Dad, you have ALWAYS loved your sons for who they are. Strong men who were raised by loving parents and by a wonderful example of what a gentleman should be at all times. You have always told me the a true man believes that God will judge and not men. Thank you for being my rock, my example and my father! And thank you for loving Andrew as one of your own!!! I will miss our Sunday phone calls and our yearly birthday tradition of sending that birthday card with a one dollar bill tucked inside...even on my 51st birthday. Father...your family loves you and will miss you beyond belief but we know you are truly at Home. Hmmmm.... Andrew and I now wonder who we shall call on a Sunday to find out how to pick out a ripe peach or ask how long garlic stays fresh.???? WE ALL LOVE YOU.

On my 40th and 50th Birthdays, Clyde told me, "It's better to be seen than to be viewed..." Well, Dad, now what, lol?!? Love you, Sir - Thank You for your constant friendship, respect, and love of your son's.
