Obituary of Esther Loween Johnson Lewis

Esther Loween Johnson Lewis, 85, passed away on September 30, 2015 in Pleasant Grove. Born on December 31, 1929 in Ovid, Idaho to Lewis Orlin and Irene Anderson Johnson. She married Dean R. Lewis September 14, 1949 in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. Esther was always the kind of person who needed to be out among the people. She was always involved. If there was a crowd, she had to be among them. She was involved in Relief Society, Jaycees, and about anything else she could find. She Worked as a telephone operator back before the dial phones came out, during the time of the old switch board. She worked at Christiansen's Clothing Store as a sales clerk. After that she took on-the-job training and became an orthodontist chair assistant. All of us kids were sure to get our yearly flouride treatment and orthodontics if we needed it, and most of us did. She enjoyed the arts and at one point played a part as the queen in Utah Valley Opera's production of "My Fair Lady". Everyone around her had to be able to be presentable to the public as though we were all on "The Esther Show", so we all learned something about color combinations and pattern combinations in the clothes we wore. There was never a flaw or a hair out of place in her appearance. She was a perfectionist where it came to things like that. When she had house guests she had to be the perfect hostess. If there was a meal, it was a proper one. It was never anything simple, never just a sandwich. She was a wonderful mother and a good friend. We will all miss her. We know she and our dad are having a wonderful reunion and if she has received her assignment in the Lord's work on the other side of the veil, we know she is busily engaged in that work. She will look in on us every now and then to do what she can to help us in our mortal experience. We will miss her. Survived by her children Randy Dean (Shirley) Lewis, Connie (David M.) Simms, Dr. David (Karen) Lewis, Dr. Ted Lewis, 22 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 4 great great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband and parents. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 8, 2015 10:00 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Stake Center (275 East 500 South. Viewings will be on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork and on Thursday from 8:45-9:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Internment in American Fork Cemetery.
