Dear Karen and all of Mrs. Beck’s children:
I remember your mother as my eighth-grade English teacher with great fondness. She was a good teacher—demanding our best efforts, and yet letting us know as students that she cared and that she was also a friend—in other words, the very best kind of teacher, especially for junior high kids, who are trying to figure out who they are and what life is about. She always had a big smile, and kept things in class interesting. This was a huge and welcome change for me after my 7th grade English teacher, who was SOOOO boring. She made a difference in my life.
Karen, I am sending big hugs and love especially to you. It’s so difficult to lose a parent, even when it becomes obvious that it is best for them to move on. My mom died in 1964 of ovarian cancer, and my dad was alone until he passed the middle of August, three months ago. He really needed to go, and I wouldn’t bring him back for anything. Still, I don’t much like the feeling of being an orphan, even at age 60. I really appreciate your friendship through our school years, and I have great memories of your mom.
May Heaven’s Love pour down upon all of you at this time.
Best,
Bonnie (Bastian) Moore
