Obituary of Finch Monroe Bingham

Finch Monroe Bingham Finch Monroe Bingham passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the Sunrise Hospice Home in Orem, Utah, surrounded by members of his family. Finch was born on December 1, 1936 to Merril and Laura Finch Bingham in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. He was raised in Spanish Fork and grew up fishing, hunting deer on horseback, and camping with his father, uncles and brothers. After completing two years at Brigham Young University, he accepted a call to serve in the Australian Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During his mission, Finch played on the “Mormon Yankees” exhibition basketball team. He married his sweetheart, RaChel Anderson, in the Manti Temple on May 26, 1961. They lived in San Francisco while Finch finished his Accounting degree at the University of San Francisco. Together he and RaChel raised six children. Finch worked in the Accounting Department for LDS Hospital, as a systems analyst for Deseret Federal Savings & Loan, and in the Oil and Gas Department for the Utah State Tax Commission. Finch was always active in the LDS church. He accepted the callings that came to him and served with diligence and faith. After he retired, Finch served with RaChel in the Mount Timpanogos Temple and in the Virginia Richmond Mission. They spent a lifetime caring for each other. Finch loved the Lord, his family, fishing, BYU basketball, the San Francisco Giants, jokes, his truck, and cowboy poetry. He found ways to include his children and grandchildren in some of his favorite activities. His children remember hunting, fishing, hitting golf balls at the driving range, shooting at cans in the foothills, attending BYU sporting events, camping, and skiing with him. Even his grandchildren were treated to fishing trips, fast food runs, and rides in the canyon with Grandpa Bingham. He was a gentle man with a wry sense of humor. Finch was preceded in death by his daughter, Sara King. Among those who will cherish his memory are his wife, RaChel, and his children: LeAnne (Eric) Hansen of Overland Park, Kansas; Cynthia (Jim) Parsons of American Fork, Utah; Lauren (Allen) Gardner of Vienna, Virginia; Devin (Angela) of Tigard, Oregon; and Doug (Heidi) of Coatesville, Pennsylvania; as well as Sara’s husband, Jamie, who resides in Alpine, Utah; twenty-four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Merril “Mert” (Lynda) and John Kent (Reine), his sister, Nancy (Michael) Swenson and his foster sister Adele Tahbo (Logan) Jones. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Sunrise Hospice Home for their kind and respectful care for Finch in the last weeks of his life. A viewing will be held Thursday, February 11, from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson and Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork. Funeral services will be held at the American Fork 23rd Ward building, 680 North 350 West, Friday, February 12, at 11 a.m., with a viewing from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Burial in the American Fork Cemetery.
