Obituary of Marla Grace Mulholland powers

Marla Grace Mulholland Powers What a glorious reunion with her sweetheart James (Jim) Powers, her family and friend’s took place with her passing on April 23, 2016. Marla was the youngest child of Ted and Grace Mulholland, born June 29, 1944 in Tacoma, Washington. She loved her brothers and sister very much and enjoyed going on adventures with them. This love of family and desire for close bonds with each other transferred over into Marla’s love and bonds with her own children. Marla, from a young age, was an example of faith. She taught her own primary class at age 5 when there was no teacher to be found. Marla loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and held many callings over the years in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved teaching the gospel the most but thoroughly enjoyed being a girl’s camp cook for 3 years in the Tacoma stake. Marla was also a great example of personal strength. As a new bride she sent her sweetheart, Jim, off to Vietnam. Marla kept up a positive attitude and did not complain about Jim’s military tours, many of which were far from her family and in foreign lands. She taught us children to look at each move as a new, fun adventure, even though she was very much a home body. Marla was known to say that she had had an amazing life that was filled with world travels and adventures. Marla is preceded in her next adventure by: her parents, siblings and eternal sweetheart, James (Jim) Dean Powers. Marla is survived by their children: James (Jim) Powers (Marianne); John Powers (June); Sarah Ann Powers; Michael Powers (Anjela); and their beloved eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Harbor 1st ward building, 600 South 100 West, American Fork on Saturday April 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., with a viewing from 12:45-1:45 p.m. Burial will be at the American Fork cemetery. We, her family, would like to say a special Thank-you to all the doctors and nurses at the Huntsman ICU. Also to the nurses and health aides of Canyon Hospice who helped us care for her during her last few days of life.
