Obituary of Kay Porter Ricks

Kay Porter Ricks, 63, passed away, May 12, 2016. He was born on February 15, 1953 to Joel Porter Ricks and Hazel Virginia Bordrero in Logan, Utah. He married his sweetheart, Lorie Jean Kendall, on June 20 1974. They were later sealed in the Provo temple on September 30, 1978. They were married for 42 years. They became the parents of three sons; Wynn (Mary), Joel (Danielle), and Tyson (Felicia). Kay always made it known that his daughters-in-law were loved as if they were his own daughters. He adored his six grandchildren and enjoyed spending as much time as he could with them. He was raised in Benson, Utah with his ten siblings. He graduated from Sky View High School in 1972. He joined the Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served 4 years active duty and 2 years in the Naval Reserve. He then served 8 years in the Utah National Guard. Kay earned an associate degree in electrical automation, and later became a journeyman electrician, master electrician, and electrical contractor. He worked at Geneva Steel for nearly 20 years. Upon leaving Geneva he worked for JD Services. Kay owned several businesses throughout his life, including his own electrical contracting company. Later he moved to UTA and worked for them 6 years until his passing. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in a bishopric, high priest quorum leadership, and as a high councilman. One of Kay’s most enjoyable callings was to serve in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. Kay and Lorie were called to serve a stay at home mission to the cannery in Lindon. He also served with the Boy Scouts of America for 29 years. Kay enjoyed riding motorcycles, four-wheelers, sand rails, side-by-sides, as well as camping with family and friends. He also enjoyed serving his neighbors and friends in any capacity that he could help them. His grandchildren looked forward to hearing stories of his past and rough housing with him. Kay is survived by his wife Lorie, his children, grandchildren and 8 of his siblings: Gerald, Dallas, Michael, Timothy, Nathan, Jeddie, Jolene and Jean. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Virginia and Patricia. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. in the American Fork West Stake Center, 579 North 680 West, American Fork, Utah. A public viewing will be held on Friday, May 27, 2016 from 6:30-9:00 pm at the Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork and Saturday at the church from 10:-11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Lehi City Cemetery following the funeral services.
