I was just doing a search for Ted Rich, Schenectady NY - I do from time of time and I feel certain this is the right family. My father worked with Ted at GE and every year the Rich's held a Christmas Eve party at their home we always attended. The house was a split level with a Christmas Tree in the entry way. One year I saw a single candy cane upside down on the tree and when I asked why I was told that their son had done that just to see if anyone noticed. The adults were upstairs and the kids were downstairs and we were made to feel special and happy and not just set aside. I was just little but I loved the Rich family for their obvious love of family and friends and I frequently remember remember them fondly.

My parents, Joe and Rae Miller, also lived in Schenectady while my dad worked for GE there. My dad was transferred to Los Angeles in 1946 so I never knew Ted and Pete Rich in NY . They did come to visit us in Whittier, California one summer and we have home movies of them there. My parents always spoke with love and admiration at any mention of the Riches. They were truly great friends. Our family expresses love and condolences to the Rich family and honor and appreciation to an exceptionally great man, friend and servant of our Heavenly Father.

Ted Rich is one of my heroes. The Book of Mormon repeats many time the powerful phrase, “steadfast and immovable”. No one was more steadfast and immovable than Ted. This sounds like “stubborn”, but he was also the epitome of foregivingness and mercy and being non-judgmental.
When I became stake president we instituted a term limit of two years for high councilors. Ted was the only exception – I inherited him from Pres. Selin and Pres. vom Lehn inherited him from me. His wisdom and faithfulness were powerful teachers to all who worked with him.
I was privileged to be one of his home teachers for a decade. So fun to visit them! (Pete always seemed to have fresh cookies that evening . . .)
In about 2007, past 90, the U of Utah electrical engineering department honored him as “Outstanding Alumnus”. He spoke at a graduation event. He talked about engineering, which he loved. But he included a courageous, powerful, and appropriate message about revelation and the Savior.
My children join in extending our condolences and love to his beloved family.

Bro. Rich was our Home Teacher when I was 7 and 8 years old and my dad asked him to teach me a few special lessons on baptism before my big day. He used a diagram of a stairway that I recreated and used on my mission and to teach my own kids. I also fondly remember the fun games they taught us when they had us over for Family Home Evening.

I saw this obituary in the Salt Lake Tribune, and I'm almost sure that the Riches knew my parents, Ray and Ruth Bryan. Dad also worked for GE, and helped to build the old Schenectady Branch chapel (we have some photos of the construction process). The company transferred us to California in 1953; Dad continued to work for GE (Marine & Defense) until his retirement in 1983. Mom and Dad moved back to Utah and bought her old family home near Tooele. They put a lot of work into the old place, and it is just beautiful today. Dad passed in early 1993, Mom late in 2010. So interesting to know that Ted Rich enjoyed such a long and joyous life.

My parents, H. Tracy and Ida-Rose L. Hall, greatly admired and loved Ted and Pete Rich, during the years we lived in Schenectady, NY and both Ted and Dad worked at General Electric.
It was my good fortune, as a child, to have their lovely daughter, Katherine Rich (now Rosenvall), as a friend in my classes, at church, and to enjoy continued communications and her caring friendship through the years (after we moved from there when I was age eleven, through the years we have shared together in the shadow of BYU and the Provo Temple).
After Dan retired from our 21 years in the Midwest and East with Bell Labs and AT&T, he was blessed to work with Katherine's husband Jim, at BYU, programming software for viewing and searching scriptures and other documents, including the Dead Sea Scrolls.
We were very disappointed that circumstances prevented our attending Ted's 100th birthday--what a milestone in a life well-lived!
We were certainly impressed, reviewing Ted's life, as detailed in his obit., but can't help but feel his and Pete's greatest legacy is their wonderful family.
I like to imagine that Katherine's and my parents have already enjoyed a joyful reunion on the other side and perhaps might join us, here on earth, as we celebrate Ted's life of faith, love and service, this weekend.

Ted was my father-in-law for 19 years. Always a loving, kind leader who never failed to set a great example. His love and patience with me, even after the 19 years, was remarkable. Up until a couple years ago I would always receive a birthday card with loving, kind thoughts. I have a lot of very fond memories of my time with Ted. I admire and respect him a great deal. I'm glad he is reunited with Petey Pie. May the Lord bless them with Eternal Joy.

I remember the many invites to Ted's house on NY for dinners. His meticulous record keeping of his travels & work! His home was so meticulously built to withstand whatever NY weather could hand out. I treasure the trip he took us on to a big cave and a boat ride in the cave! What a great man!
