Obituary of Deane Sargent Wright Winters

Deane Sargent Wright Winters, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, died Thursday, Nov 3, 2016 in Lehi, Utah, during the month she would have turned 93. Her birth Nov. 25, 1923, at home in Coalville, Utah, surprised both parents because, while they were expecting a baby, they had no idea two red-headed twins were about to enter their lives. Deane and Donna Sargent Wright Dearden were not only sisters but also lifelong best friends. Deane grew up in Coalville, Utah, and graduated from North Summit High School and LDS Seminary, where she met her eternal sweetheart Wayne Street Winters. She and her twin were the school's first twirlers for athletic and other events. As senior citizens, the twins had fun when they were named first runners-up in a national Wrigley Chewing Gum twins' lookalike competition. On July 10 1942, Wayne and Deane eloped to Preston, Idaho, to be married. They defied predictions that "This will never last," by staying completely devoted to each other. They were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple Jan. 30, 1964, and celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary shortly before Wayne's death in 2011. During World War 11, Wayne enlisted in the Air Force and Deane worked and waited for him as he served his country. A wonderful homemaker and excellent cook, she also applied her talents to the work force and retired from Alpine School District after many years of service. Deane was active in civic organizations such as the Jaycee wives and the Democratic political party. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings. Among her favorites were the 12 years she served as Primary president and the mission she served with her husband in Indianapolis, where they celebrated their 60th anniversary. Family meant everything to her. She is survived by her children, Michael (Marilyn), Donald, Kathy Drummond (Randy), Robert (Janet), David (Sarah) and Matthew (Katrina); her twin sister Donna Dearden, and sister Karen Smith; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, John Eaton and Ursula Elizabeth Wright, and sisters, Rose Deseret Stratford, May Moore, and Afton Blonquist. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Hillcrest Stake Center, 185 North 350 West, American Fork, Utah. Viewing will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork, Utah.
