Obituary of Scott Robert Vernon
Scott Robert Vernon, 56, passed away peacefully at home in Highland, Utah, on Sunday, December 25, 2016, from complications due to multiple sclerosis. He bravely endured a 26-year battle with this physically debilitating condition. We will greatly miss his kind soul but sincerely rejoice in the freedom he now enjoys on the other side of the veil.
Scott was born on October 29, 1960, in Provo, Utah, to Robert Dean Vernon and Gwendolyn Eloise Thompson. He grew up in West Valley City, Utah, graduating from Cyprus High School in 1979 where he ran track and played basketball. He served an honorable LDS mission in Melbourne, Australia from 1980-1982. He was sealed to his wife, Sandra Waldheim, on May 4, 1984, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Scott worked for a time in the computer software industry in the Provo/Orem area after graduating from Brigham Young University in 1987. As a student there, he was part of the ballroom dance team. He remained a BYU fan and enjoyed watching basketball and football games. Scott served faithfully as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He provided a home of safety and love for his family.
Scott is survived by his wife, Sandra; children, Andrew (Kami) Vernon, Amy (Travis) Thompson, Peter (Courtney) Vernon, and Joseph Vernon; four grandchildren; parents, Robert and Gwen Vernon; mother-in-law, Johanna Waldheim; siblings, Bruce Vernon, Annette (Kyle) Triggs, and Laura Vernon; and sister-in-law, Diana Waldheim. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, George Waldheim.
The family wishes to thank all the home health and hospice aides and nurses, as well as their ward family, who cared for Scott for so many years. Their sacrifices, talents, and support blessed and sustained him as he valiantly and courageously pressed forward under difficult circumstances.
