It was with great sadness that I learned of Shirley's death, but with gratitude that you were able to bring her to our high school reunion in October, Larry. Seeing her was one of my fondest memories. We were friends at girls' camp as Beehives and that was a long time ago! You two won the jitterbug contest at our 20th reunion and danced again at our 50th. Though it wasn't the jitterbug this time, it was wonderful seeing you dance together. What wonderful memories I know you have.

To the family of Joseph and Lola Barton. We remember your family and love them all. We were sad to see the passing of Shirley. She was a delightful child in our Primary in Henderson, Nevada. More recently, it was our pleasure to meet some of the family in the Mount Timp Temple. We do not get out much anymore at our age, but want to send your our love and support. Your family was our neighbor on Fir street in Henderson. We remember happy occasions with the children when we were young. Oh, how we treasure the memories of that time. May the Lord bless all of your individual families. Marie and Delmar

Bro. Gibson and Gibson Family,
You may not remember me, but I associated with you and Sister Gibson at one or more BSA world jamborees. In Sweden, I was he
who was responsible for the lashed "lighthouse;" I worked for Charles Dahlquist, there.
I remember Sister Gibson as a delightful and fun person to be around. I was impressed with her dignity, yet light heartedness and sense of humor.
We also appreciated your leadership as a member of the General YMs presidency which was far reaching and effective.
We send our sincere condolences and pray for your family in this
time of heartfelt grief.

It has been great to know such a great lady. Shirley always had a smile that would light up the whole room. She will be missed but will be remembered by everyone who knew her. What an example she is to all of us. Shirley, I will see you again one day.

Larry,
We are saddened to learn about Shirley's death. Both of us having had a similar experience remember these feelings and the challenges and blessings that are ahead for you.
Our memories about you started over 52 years ago. Keith remembers your grandfather, his stake patriarch, Robert O. Gibson, bearing testimony of the truth of the Gospel in the Las Vegas 2nd ward. This was just a day or two after the death of his wife, Edith. The bright, joyful look on his face was unforgettable.
A decade later you were one of the finest students Keith has had at BYU in the School of Library & Information Sciences. Your study with recommendations for the labor union office in Las Vegas was incisive.
Marylin remembers your much appreciated computer programming support that you gave to her husband, John R. Taylor, while you were working for him in the system analyst office in the Harold B. Lee library. Did anyone else call you "Hoot"?
Finally, we have on our white board the following quote from Shirley that you gave in a general conference talk. "I love you because I know you love the Lord more than you love me..."
Larry, our prayers are that you and your family will be comforted in the knowledge of the atonement of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Keith & Marylin (Taylor) Stirling

I have only met Sis. Gibson through a Stake Conference talk Pres. Gibson gave about 15 years ago. I remember hearing him speak about his wife and how wonderful and how she was such an amazing companion. I remember thinking that I wanted to be like her someday. I wanted to live in such a way that others would feel as loved as Pres. Gibson did. I am still working on it. I will forever be grateful for her example and the light she shared through her spouse.

Shirley was an Angel among us. Her grace, warmth, positivity and beliefs defined her. These wonderful traits and characteristics engendered the environment, wherein her family flourished. The Gibson family remain role models to many of us who know and cherish them. Larry was able to charge into the temporal business world & their ecclesiastical faith service roles, because there was love, at home. Shirley, is another word for Love.

But with the help of family and friends they can ease the pain. What has helped me and I know that you also have the hope of the kingdom of God that will relieve all our suffering. Larry I'm sending you a link to a tract that discusses the benefits of that kingdom. https://assetsnffrgf-a.akamaihd.net/assets/a/t-36/E/wpub/T-36_E_md.jpg Please read it and look up the scriptures. Shirley touched so many lives with her beautiful smile and her genuine love for everyone. It was wonderful being her cousin. Larry and family--may the Lord bless you with peace and comfort. What a miracle that she could stay for a while longer to bless even more lives. The power of the Priesthood and the love and tender care of her family kept her with us. My heart is sad, but it is a peaceful sadness.
