Obituary of Jack LaMar Jensen
Jack LaMar Jensen, 71, passed away January 28, 2018 in Orem, Utah. Born on April 29, 1946 in Brigham City, Utah to Roger William Jensen and Margaret Mary Wadman. He married Marynne Joy Hardy on April 4, 1968 in the Logan Temple.
Jack served in the LDS Eastern States Mission from 1965-1967. Later, he was a counselor in the Orem 7th Ward Bishopric and High Council member of the Orem North Stake. Then from 2001-2004, he served as the Bishop of the BYU YSA 153rd Ward. He earned his doctorate in Educational Psychology from BYU in 1978 and was a practicing psychologist in Utah Valley for over 40 years. Jack primarily worked as a counselor and professor at UVU where he served as the Director of the Wellness Center and of Mental Health Services implementing programs for suicide prevention. He loved the outdoors, enjoying hiking and golfing. He was a Cougar Club member supporting BYU football, basketball and volleyball. He spent his free time visiting family and supporting them in ball games, baptisms and blessings. More important to him than possessions or accomplishments were his relationships to people. He spent his life loving, supporting and uplifting others. All who knew him considered him a friend and father figure.
Jack is survived by his wife, children: Deborah (Michael) Paquette, Vaughn (Melissa) Jensen, Derek (Sara) Jensen, Burke (Kimberli) Jensen, 17 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and his siblings: Bill Jensen, Dan Jensen, and Jean Silva. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Ann Jensen.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Alpine Stake Center, 98 East Canyon Crest, Alpine, Utah. A viewing will be held Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary Lone Peak, 6141 West 11000 North, Highland and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at the Highland Cemetery.
