Roy Riska will always live in my memory as the first bishop I ever knew and as an example of what a bishop should be like. In fact, his signature is on my baby blessing certificate! He was a close friend of our family and was so good to my mom and dad until the day they died. I was blessed to see Roy and Norma from time to time in later years when he was a museum docent and after I moved back to Crescent and made my permanent home here. I was sorry when they eventually moved away.

Sending my sincerest condolences to Sister Norma Riska and their daughter Nicolene and her family. I was a young man at the time President Riska served in our Stake Presidency and will always remember the spirit that he carried as he taught. I also was a classmate through junior high and high school with Nicolene and send my best wishes to her as well.

When I saw Roy's picture, my mind was flooded with memories of my husband Doug Merrill's times as a docent with Roy at the Church Art and History Museum. I am sure that group is gathering again to bring beauty to the place where they are now. May your memories be as sweet as those I have of this good man.

Thank you for the good memories we have of Roy, Norma, and the Turnbow Family. When Merle Fairbourn moved to Iowa, he had been a counselor to Bishop Hardcastle. Roy was called to replace him. I was just old enough to become involved in church activities. All the while I was growing up, Roy was in responsible positions in our ward and stake. Each of you has impressed Rae and me through the years. We have great respect and love for Roy and all of you. Thank you for our associations of the past.

LeRoy had a way of expressing gratitude that I could feel throughout my soul. I will miss his stories, his eye twinkle, the way he looked at Norma, and the way he stood up from the back right pew to share his testimony.

I served with Roy and Norma in Hawaii on my mission in Hawaii and they have been family friends since the dawn of time. Their example of unconditional love and service was and is inspiring to me. I still have the coveted “Riska Wood” tie clip Roy gave me. My love and gratitude to Roy and Norma now and forever. Tom Kimball

Roy was a fun gentle man. My Dad, Harold J. Shaw, took me to work with him at the assay office when I was a young boy. Roy put an asbestos glove that came up to my shoulder on me and placed a beaker covered with a watch glass in my hand. He told me to get him a beaker of hot steam. Maybe the other assayers could help me. I asked the men in the wet lab, the weighing rooms and the fire room. None had any hot steam. My Uncle Grant Shaw in the fire room said, “Let me help you.” He took the beaker from my gloved hand, filled it part way with water from the drinking fountain and placed it snuggly back in my hand. He said, “Tell Roy you could only find some cold steam.” Roy was delighted. I’ve never forgotten him.

I loved spending time with the Riska family growing up, our home was right across the street east of the Riska home. I learned how to cook from a coal stove, crochet, and learn how to love others by there examples.. Mrs. Riska had so much compassion, Mike was Mike I loved his Ford Model T car which we got to ride in the draper 24th parades.. I remember Roy and Norma when I got older and how I loved to visit them in there home on 11000 South in Sandy. I then learned that my mother Marie Tidwell Rees went to school with Norma growing up in American Fork, Utah. I will miss Roy this wonderful, caring, and gentleman he was a Christ like person. Norma God bless and comfort you through this most difficult time. Love Carlene

We have good memories of LeRoy. He served as a member of our Board of Trustees for Draper Visual Arts Foundation for many years. The Riska home was, for a time, the place where our student art scholarship entries were judged. Thank you to the Riskas for your kind support. God bless you, Norma, in the days ahead.

I have such fond memories of Roy as he served as my Bishop in the Crescent Ward, and of the many fireside gatherings for the youth that was held at Roy and Norma's home. Everyone loved them. When mom and dad moved to Midvale, Roy and Norma never forgot them, and would sometime, on a Sunday evening, drop by to visit and enjoy a dish of ice cream with our family. He would always give the biggest hugs. I loved Nicolene and had fun baby sitting her and taking her shopping a few times. What a WONDERFUL Family!!. Our prayers are with you Norma, and Nicolene and family.

I loved the Riska family. Mike and Mrs. Riska (as we called them) were always so kind and loving to our family across the street - at first just a 2 lane highway and then the divided highway. I loved to visit with Roy and Norma whenever our paths crossed. They are both such kind and loving people, with great memories. Always remembered me and my family and inquired about them often. May you find much comfort at this difficult time.
